Who we are

ailternative.com ("we", "us") is a free, AI-powered directory of software and product alternatives. You can use the site without creating an account, and we aim to collect as little personal data as possible.

What we collect

  • Search queries and suggestions. The product names you search for or suggest are processed to generate content for the site. They are sent to our AI provider (OpenAI) to produce rankings and descriptions. We do not link queries to your identity.
  • Ratings. When you rate an alternatives list, we store your vote together with a one-way hash derived from your IP address and browser signature. This hash prevents duplicate voting; the raw IP address is not stored with your vote and the hash cannot be reversed.
  • Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used (pages visited, approximate location, device type). See our Cookie Policy for details.
  • Server logs. Like nearly all websites, our servers keep short-lived technical logs (IP address, browser user-agent, timestamps) for security, debugging and rate limiting.

What we don't collect

We don't ask for your name, email address or any account details to use the site. We don't sell or share personal data with advertisers, and we don't run third-party ad networks.

Third-party services

  • OpenAI — receives the product names being analyzed in order to generate content. No visitor identity is attached.
  • Google Analytics — usage statistics via cookies (see Cookie Policy).
  • Hosting & storage providers — our infrastructure and image hosting (e.g. Cloudflare R2) process traffic as needed to serve the site.

Data retention

Ratings and product suggestions are kept as part of the site's content. Technical server logs are retained only for a short period. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics' standard settings.

Your choices

  • Block or delete cookies in your browser at any time — the site keeps working (see the Cookie Policy).
  • Opt out of Google Analytics with the official browser add-on.
  • Contact us to ask about or request deletion of data you believe relates to you.
